What is the Karlsgate Identity Exchange (KIE)?

The Karlsgate Identity Exchange (abbreviated as KIE, and pronounced key) allows you to unlock effortless, privacy-enhanced data connectivity to any partner, any industry, and any geography. You stay in control and can safeguard your data operations without requiring undue trust.

What makes it work?

KIE utilizes a vital piece of technology, the node, that provides fully automated cryptography and secure data transfer for your data assets. Nodes fit into your security architecture. Choose the isolation level that best meets your policies and use cases. Nodes can read data from local file systems, SFTP folders, S3 buckets, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage, so it's easy to integrate into what you already use.

Where is your data?

Each of your data sets linked to a node will be represented as a listing on the exchange, but your actual data stays put. This approach ensures that your data always remains fully within your custody and control. For your data set, you will need to start with a structured/tabular data file. Other details can be flexible.

How do you connect?

You use this portal (our KIE Portal website) to view your active nodes and your listings' metadata. The structured/tabular data sets linked to your nodes (your listings) are still on your nodes—those are not here on this website! From here you can create proposals (or review ones you've received), review your past activity, as well as maintain your account. Once a proposal is accepted you and your partner's nodes kick into gear and use industry standard cryptography to protect and connect your data.

1. Create membership

Create (register) your membership by clicking here to join the exchange. You will need to provide your name and email address to register.

2. Confirm account

Once you have registered, use the confirmation email message that you receive to confirm your email address. The email message you receive will contain a hyperlink for you to confirm your email address. (Your user account will not be ready for use until you have confirmed your email address.)

3. Name membership

If you are the first person registering on behalf of your organization, then you will need to supply a member name plate. A name plate allows you to establish your organization's identity to potential trading partners. A company's name is commonly used as the member name plate. (To do this, both steps above [1 & 2] must be complete and you must be logged in the KIE Portal.)

4. Invite colleague or trading partner

You may (A) invite your colleagues or (B) potential trading partners by sending each of them an email invitation directly from the Karlsgate Identity Exchange (KIE) Portal. Some appropriate colleagues to invite might be an IT coordinator who will be deploying your KIE node(s) and creating your listing(s) or a trade manager who will be managing trades via KIE. (To do this, all steps above [1-3] must be complete and you must be logged in to the KIE Portal.)

Note, if you are the first person registering on behalf of your organization, then you must invite your colleagues to join your membership.

All invitations expire after 10 calendar days. Once an invitation has expired, a new invitation must be sent to your colleague or trading partner.

(A) To invite a colleague to join your membership, do the following:

  1. Choose the Invitations option under Membership (main menu: Membership → Invitations) and press the Add invitation button;
  2. Enter your colleague's email address;
  3. Choose the "user to my membership" invitation type; and,
  4. Press the Create invitation button.

It is recommended to use your colleague's organization email address (i.e., work email address). Note, if your organization has single sign-on configured, there may be other, specific email address usage rules in place as well.

(B) Alternatively, to invite a potential trading partner to join KIE as a separate member, do the following:

  1. Choose the Invitations option under Membership (main menu: Membership → Invitations) and press the Add invitation button;
  2. Enter a known user's email address at the trading partner;
  3. Choose the "trading partner" invitation type; and,
  4. Press the Create invitation button.

Be sure to communicate your intention to invite the trading partner before doing so.
